Dr. Jillian Mckinnon Bio

rowing up, Dr. McKinnon competed in hockey, volleyball, badminton, soccer, and track, and thus she takes a special interest in treating an athletic population, as well as pregnant women and those that suffer from headaches as she is a previous migraine sufferer herself. Dr. McKinnon grew up on a farm outside of Macklin, Saskatchewan before attending Red Deer College and the University of Alberta to complete a kinesiology diploma and a Bachelors degree in Sport Performance. This education led to experience personal training, training university sports teams and elite athletes, fitness testing, and health promotion in school aged children. Wanting to learn as much as she could about the body and human movement, Dr. McKinnon then decided to attend the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon and later graduated cum laude in 2017 with her Doctorate of Chiropractic. Dr. McKinnon is very excited to be practicing near her hometown and to support her community with her education. Now having two little boys at home, she is very happy to be near family, her lake cabin, and small town life. Dr. McKinnon utilizes soft tissue techniques, chiropractic adjustments, nutritional recommendations, brain-based rehab, and focuses heavily on exercise rehab in her treatments as she believes a well-rounded approach is required to make the greatest impact in her patient’s health. Dr. McKinnon is certified in Webster Technique which is especially beneficial for pregnancy, as well as holds recent certifications in post-partum and pregnancy corrective exercise. Additionally, she has accomplished certification as a Strong First kettlebell instructor, Integrated Brain Therapy, Active Release Technique, Rocktape Functional Movement Taping, and multiple movement and exercise rehab courses. Much of Dr. McKinnon’s treatment is focused on improving your ability to move with ease and confidence. Her goal is focused on educating patients on the importance of movement as a way to overcome injury, eliminate pain, and take control of your own physical health.

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
