Dr. David Tam Bio

I am an evidence-based chiropractor based out of Toronto that focuses on assessment and patient-centered care. My interest in healthcare began after sustaining a number of injuries as a student-athlete. I went on to pursue an Honours Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Gerontology at the University of Waterloo, then furthered my education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College where I obtained my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. During my undergraduate studies, I provided on-field care as a student therapist for the University of Waterloo Men’s Volleyball and Varsity Badminton teams. As a personal trainer and former paddler for the University of Waterloo’s Dragon Boat Club, I went on to co-lead Dryland strength and conditioning practices. I have worked alongside my co-operative education employers, providing ergonomic insights and recommendations for desk workers. I gave a soft spot when working with the elderly: providing musculoskeletal care at South Riverdale Community Health Centre, organizing programs at Carefirst Seniors’ Adult Day Program, and leading virtual exercises classes for seniors during the pandemic. When I am not in the clinic, you can find me on the badminton/volleyball courts, hiking a trail, or documenting my adventures through photography. Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why? As a working professional and weekend warrior himself. I understand the occupational demands and stresses on the body during the working week. I enjoy treating neck pain, back pain, and sports-related injuries. My treatment philosophy focuses on the assessment to identify the root cause of the aches and pains. What are the top 3 treatments that you specialize in? My treatment methodology is a multi-modal approach utilizing different tools in my tool-belt to maximize the recovery process. My treatments of choice are manual therapy (soft tissue therapy, joint mobilization, and/or manipulation), injury prevention & education, and prescribing individualized rehabilitation programs tailored towards my patient's goals. What are you proud of in your practice? I take pride in being able to help patients understand their own bodies better. My role is to simplify the complex understanding of the human body and to guide you towards your goals. Whether that is to decrease pain, restore range of motion, or returning back to the sport. I am there to motivate, empower and educate you through the process. Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area? I have worked with athletes, office workers, children, the elderly, and individuals from all walks of life with different musculoskeletal concerns. I focus on the assessment and treats every condition that walks into my office with a high degree of care. I take pride in being able to create a safe and open environment for my patients. I strive to constantly improve my assessment, diagnosis, and treatments through continuing education and stays up-to-date with the research.

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
